Adrenal incidentalomas: imaging challenges—role of MDCT scan versus MRI in evaluating adrenal incidentalomas

چکیده

Abstract Background The term adrenal incidentaloma (AI), by definition, is an mass that unexpectedly detected through imaging procedure performed for reasons unrelated to dysfunction or suspected dysfunction. Despite their frequent appearance, the challenge remains in recognizing and treating small percentage of AI poses a significant risk, either because hormonal activity malignant histology. aim this study role MRI, specifically chemical shift (CSI), against various MDCT scans (non-enhanced, enhanced, delayed) characterization incidentally discovered masses offer way patients avoid unnecessary time money-wasting modalities used reach diagnosis lesions. We examined total number 20 with 22 mean age was 51.1 ± 15.27. Results In our study, we found among CT parameters, APW RPW showed highest sensitivity specificity detection lipid-rich adenomas. CSI has also proven be best MR technique. However, there no statistically difference diagnostic capability versus washout Both could conducted, according specific patient preferences and/or limitations, comparable highly accurate outcomes. Conclusion This demonstrates similar outcome obtained from contrast-enhanced (CECT) MRI

Evaluating and managing adrenal incidentalomas REVIEW ■

Adrenal masses that are found incidentally should be evaluated with both imaging and hormonal studies. The attenuation coefficient on noncontrast computed tomography (CT), expressed in Hounsfield units (HU), is better than tumor size in differentiating adrenal adenomas and hyperplastic lesions from nonadenomas. All patients should undergo hormonal evaluation for Cushing syndrome and pheochromoc...

Current Management of Adrenal Incidentalomas

Adrenal “incidentalomas” refer to a group of adrenal masses initially discovered during cross-sectional imaging obtained for other clinical reasons. The majority of incidentalomas are benign nonfunctional adrenal adenomas and can be safely managed expectantly. A subset of adrenal incidentalomas, however, are functional and/or malignant, and these lesions most often require adrenalectomy. The fo...

Adrenal incidentalomas: a disease of modern technology.

The adrenal ‘incidentaloma’ (AI) is an adrenal tumour greater than 1cm in diameter that is discovered incidentally during a radiologic examination performed for indications other than an evaluation of adrenal disease. 1,2,5,11,12 It is typically found on a CT scan done for other purposes and frequently causes much grief to the clinician who is unsure how to act upon the finding. Most AIs ar...

Adrenal ganglioneuromas: incidentalomas with misleading clinical and imaging features.

BACKGROUND Ganglioneuromas are benign neoplasms of the neural crest, occurring rarely in the adrenal glands. This study presents our experience regarding diagnostic and therapeutic management of these neoplasms and a review of the relevant literature. METHODS Among 150 patients with of incidentalomas, we had 7 primary ganglioneuromas. Their clinical, imaging, and operative data were collected...
